NFL Rumor Central: New contract in the works for Gronk?

It looks like the New England Patriots' biggest offensive threat may be getting a well-deserved bump in his pay.

According to NFL.com's Mike Garafolo, Rob Gronkowski's agents, Drew and Jason Rosenhaus, are working with the team on a new deal, per a source informed of the negotiations.

ESPN’s Mike Reiss reports Bill Belichick said hello to Gronkowski’s agents on the way off the practice field Sunday, where they then walked together down the stairs en route to the locker room.

Gronkowski is currently playing under an eight-year, $55.23 million contract he signed in 2012 — not bad pay for a tight end.

Since he is locked in until 2019, thanks to New England picking up his $10 million option, there isn't a huge rush for a new deal. But it might be a good idea to show some love to Gronkowski, since he seemed less than pleased about the option pickup, expressing his feelings via Twitter during the offseason.

If ya think about it that Option pick up basically equals pay cut the next 4 seasons…?????? I don't work hard for those reasons. Haha ???

Garafolo tweeted that a new contract is "not imminent" with Gronkowski and that Drew Rosenhaus declined to comment on any talks Sunday.

Drew and Jason Rosenhaus also represent Jabaal Sheard, another Patriot whose contract expires after the season. Reiss reports they spoke with Sheard after practice as well after watching from the VIP area.
